My story

              My Story

At the dawning hours of nineteenth May nineteen forty five

A baby boy came to this world that the loving parents named
As ‘Mohan’ and was baptized in the school as ‘Ramasamy’
A brook with crystal clear water was the school days-it passed off with
A good number of friends around coupled with the affection of the family.

A happy later part of the ‘teens’ came with youthful vigour
A love, ecstatic love blossomed with the aunt’s daughter ‘Mala’
A carefree college days were flying like a kite joyfully receiving
A good number of letters from the sweet heart ‘Mala’.
All these came to an end completing the course without a degree

As there was dearth of teachers, I got a job as a teacher in 1965
A village nineteen kilometers away- a good atmosphere to work
A class teacher for tenth standard with a strength of fifty students
As a sincere and dedicated teacher I took my boys to ‘Sathanur Dam’
A pleasant and memorable trip in bicycle covering 21 Kilometers.

A sad end came to my job as my father asked me to join him in the business in 1966
Along with my elder brother Kandaswamy., who was with him from 1956.
As there was no need for 3 persons, our father left us in 1968 to have his retired own show
As a pawnbroker in a near by building doing everything at leisure.

A sad and dramatic turn occurred when Mala’s parents started seeking for
A bridegroom for my sweet heart- even a minute’s delay will be too late
As it was customary for a youth to confide in with his mother
Anxiously, I revealed my desire to my mother. My mother was doubtful whether
A marriage was possible, as my sister-in-law happens to be the own sister of Mala.

A wave of shock entered my heart when I learnt refusal from Mala’s family
A distressed grandpa arranged a secret meeting through my elder
Aunt who is residing adjacent to Mala's house
A dismayed sweet heart came with eyes full of tears to say
Adieu to my love- Emboldened grandpa told me- you are my son’s son
And Mala is my daughter’s daughter, come what may, I shall make you united.
Almighty did not let down the heart to heart love that blossomed with His grace
A ray of hope sprouted when my parents decided to go and betroth my sweet heart.
A happy union by way of wedlock joyfully took place on 26th August 1966
A blessed arrival of a daughter in 1971 and blissful entry of a son in 1976 made us
A joyful couple leading a simple and serene life for a good number of years.

Along with jewel business, we, brothers, entered pharmaceutical distribution in 1977
As both of us doing 2 businesses together moving here and there made my brother think
An alternative for it. In 1980 he gave the liberty to me take any one of the businesses
And to do it independently; accordingly I had chosen pharmaceutical distribution, which was
At a take off stage with a challenge to make it number one in the district.

As a shy man I avoided attending social functions to some extent
After living 20 years in the joint family along with my parents and brother
A curse befallen on us in 1986 to have our own show independently
A happy independence for my wife as she need not be in the clutches of elders
A mighty responsibility was put on my shoulders to make both ends meet

A hard worker by nature, I put in my effort by going to the business house at 7.30a.m
A word given is given for me and time is the essence of my life
A warm reception to the customers and timely clearance of bills earned me good name
A dedicated staff of my business house supported well to get good turnover
A good amount of profit started flowing in to lead a comfortable life.

As the days and years were flying our children grown up with good character
Away from home, they did well to get their degrees
Almighty helped us to perform their marriages happily.
A blissful moment came when we had our grand children in our lap.
All the things were set in for us to lead a happy retired life.

Aloof from the routine, my sweet heart and I decided to visit various places
Alas the fate, the omnipotent fate decided to have a final laugh at us by taking
Away my sweet, sweet Mala- on 10th May 2002 -a saddened widower became I
All that remains are sweet, sweet happenings to munch from memory
Awaiting the fate’s call – how far it is or how long will it take?
